Disaster Recovery Planning

In the event of a disaster, many companies need to recover their IT systems quickly. To ensure a successful recovery, business data, networks and infrastructure must be protected and returned to ‘business as usual’ status within hours or days.

The key objectives are to minimize financial loss, recover quickly from disruption and ensure the availability of critical business processes. Continental Auditors can provide assurance that disaster planning, documentation and testing is adequate for IT personnel, processes and infrastructure.

The critical first step is a ‘business impact analysis’ to identify the potential impact of a disruption and to set recovery priorities. The sequence of actions to be taken during a disruption must be clearly understood. Backup sites and systems are essential for fast recovery. Periodic tests and exercises should be scheduled to validate readiness.

Continental’s approach is based on industry best practices from the Disaster Recovery Institute (DRI) and the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC).

Some of the areas that we cover in our disaster recovery planning engagements are displayed to the right. Please contact Continental Audit Services to request a proposal tailored to meet your specific requirements.
